Choosing a PC Case

Your PC Case must be able to accommodate your motherboard form factor. For example, the most common PC Case, an ATX Mid-Tower PC Case, can accommodate (largest to smallest) an ATX, micro-ATX, or ITX motherboard. A Mini-Tower micro-ATX PC Case can accommodate a micro-ATX or ITX motherboard. Also, if you cannot live without an optical drive (like me), note that most modern PC Cases do not accommodate internal optical disc drives (ODD) - although there are a small number that do. Most modern PC Cases will (ideally) have mesh panels (front and/or top) to allow for multiple case fans. You may also have an opinion about whether or not there is a PSU shroud, so the power supply and cable connections are not visible - especially if the PC Case has a clear side panel.

So, to determine if a particular PC Case will work for you, start with the size of the motherboard. If you're really set on a smaller Mini-Tower, there may be an alternative micro-ATX motherboard that will accommodate your CPU. Then, if you need an internal optical drive, make sure the PC Case has an internal drive bay with a front opening. Of course there are always external USB ODDs.

My idea of a perfect PC Case includes:
glass swing-out side panel, mesh front, mesh top, mesh bottom, PSU shroud,
cable management slots/rails, ODD bay.

Often, you can get faster performance and additional features/functionality by upgrading to a better motherboard. Generally, a motherboard name beginning with B or H is slower-performing than a name with Z or X. For example, I replaced an H97 chipset motherboard with a Z97 and noticed a considerable improvement. The new motherboard also included more RAM slots and an NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD slot. Some motherboards may also offer integrated WiFi.
